Digitized Village Savings and Loans Scheme (DVSLS).
Through a strategic partnership between the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) under the WIDU program and Webmate Ghana, fifty Village Savings and Loan Associations (VSLAs) and women-led community groups have been successfully onboarded onto a digitized VSLA platform marking a significant step forward in grassroots financial inclusion across Ghana.
The initiative centers on delivering localized digital financing tools designed specifically for the realities of rural women farmers and traders. Rather than replicating generic fintech solutions into unde-rserved communities, the platform was built to mirror the way these groups already operate preserving the social trust at the heart of the VSLA model while adding the transparency, accountability, and financial traceability that digital tools make possible.
For many of these women, participation in a VSLA represents their only structured access to credit and savings. By digitizing these transactions, members now generate verifiable financial records for the first time records that form the foundation of a credit identity and open doors to formal financial services that were previously out of reach.
